Atlético Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is expected to leave the Spanish side this season, and most people expected him to turn up at Stamford Bridge. But that does’t look like it will be happening, at least if reports out of Spain are to be believed.
According to Marca, before Falcao went away for the South American World Cup qualifiers he told the Atletico board that he wouldn’t be joining Chelsea this summer.
With a move across Madrid to Real out of the question, the potential destinations for Falcao to move to this summer are pretty small.
He doesn’t fit into Barcelona’s side and none of the Italian clubs can afford him. That leaves the Premier League, where really only Chelsea and Manchester City could afford the €50m transfer fee for the world’s third best striker. If Chelsea are out of the running and City is heavily linked with Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, that leaves PSG. And they are linked with a move for Wayne Rooney.
So as unlikely as it looked three months ago, Radamel Falcao could well be back in an Atlético Madrid shirt next summer.
