It is no secret that Roman Abramovich and Chelsea have had a man crush on Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao ever since he ripped them to shreds the Uefa SuperCup earlier this year. Well it seems that Falcao is starting to feel the same way about Chelsea.
“I would not be worried about the physical aspect of the Premier League,” Falcao told The Daily Mail.
“I have scored goals in Argentina, Portugal and now Spain. I am confident I can adapt my game to any league. I would welcome the challenge of the Premier League.
“I have watched the Premier League for a long time. There is so much quality and it is such an exciting league. Of course it is nice to think I might play in it.
“Chelsea are champions of Europe and there is not much more to say than that.
“Even after winning the Champions League they still go and sign players of the highest quality. Their ambition is clear.
“I was also a big fan of [former Chelsea forward] Gianfranco Zola when I was growing up.”
Chelsea are reported to have already began talks with Atletico Madrid on a possible January deal. Falcao has a £48 million release clause in his contract, which is not expected to be an obstacle for Abramovich and Chelsea.
The arrival of Falcao will surely mean the end of the failed Fernando Torres experiment as Chelsea will in essence replace one £50 million striker with another. The difference is that Falcao scores.
Since arriving at Chelsea in January 2011, Torres has made 85 appearances for Chelsea scoring 19 goals. In that same time period, Falcao has made 71 appearances for Porto/Atletico Madrid scoring 67 goals!
With the midfield trio of Oscar, Hazard and Mata and Falcao up-front, Chelsea’s attacking four will not only be the best in Europe, it might be as good as anyone in Europe.
What do you think of Falcao? Do you think that he would be a star in the Premier League?
