Brazilian side Internacional have announced the signing of Diego Forlan just hours after the Uruguay striker terminated his contract with Inter Milan.
Forlan, who had a year left on his contract in Italy, has put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at Internacional until June 2015.
A statement from Internacional read:
“Diego Forlan is the new reinforcement of Internacional. The Uruguay player is in Milan and will arrive in Porto Alegre on Saturday.
“The player will be unveiled tomorrow [Saturday].”
Forlan, 33, joined the Nerazzurri last summer from Atletico Madrid but endured a frustrating, injury-plagued campaign, scoring two goals in 22 appearances.
A statement on the Inter web site earlier today said:
F.C. Internazionale and Diego Forlan have mutually agreed to rescind the player’s contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2013. The necessary paperwork has been filed at the Lega Serie A offices.
Forlan is the second veteran who Inter have released in the last week as the try and slash their wage bill and get younger at the same time. Forlan had been rumored to be heading to Internacional for the better part of two months now.
