USA striker Clint Dempsey will miss the U.S.’s huge World Cup qualifier at Honduras on Saturday. Dempsey sprained his shoulder during Fulham’s 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday and underwent an M.R.I. exam yesterday which showed the extent of the injury.
The injury cannot be that serious as the US did not replace Dempsey on the roster for Saturday’s match, which would indicate that Bob Bradley thinks he will be ready for the game against Costa Rica October 14 in Washington, D.C.
Dempsey has five goals in 13 qualifying matches during the U.S. campaign, second on the team behind forward Jozy Altidore.
The U.S., who lead the CONCACAF group, basically needs one victory from the two matches to guarantee a place in next summers World Cup in South Africa.
