France right back is on the brink of completeing an £11 million switch to Arsenal from Premier League rivals Newcastle.
Debuchy has been linked to the Gunners for weeks and he looks set to finally sign after his return from the World Cup. France were knocked out in the World Cup quarter-finals with Germany and Debuchy flew back to England to complete a medical with the Gunners on Monday.
Arsenal’s move for Debuchy follows the departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City on a free transfer this summer. To add a little spice to the signing, Debuchy was preferred to Sagna in the France starting line-up throughout the World Cup.
There were reports that a deal was in place after the player appeared to confirm the switch on Instagram, but while he has now denied announcing the move but did say talks are ongoing.
“It wasn’t me who posted it on Instagram,” he said. “Everyone is saying that, but nothing has been done. For the moment, we are discussing it. Arsenal are a great club. We’ll see what happens.”
The 28-year-old made 46 appearances for Newcastle, scoring once, after signing for the Magpies from Lille for £5.5m in January 2013.
