David Moyes To Manchester United?

FergieStrange stories coming out of Manchester today. The initial rumor was that Everton manager David Moyes was going to leave Everton and become Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant next season with the goal of taking over from Fergie in 2014 after the World Cup.

But that story has been topped by the rumor that Fergie will step down as United boss and the end of the season and that Moyes will take over the reigns at Old Trafford.

Bookies in the UK have been swamped with bets that Moyes is going to Old Trafford and interestingly United have failed to quell suggestions inside and outside the club that Sir Alex Ferguson is about to announce details of his retirement.

This is a huge change of direction from SAF and United as at the weekend Ferguson suggested in his programme notes that he would still be around at Old Trafford next season, despite news that he is to have a hip operation in the summer.

‘I certainly don’t have any plans at the moment to walk away from what I believe will be something special and worth being around to see,’ he said. ‘It’s always difficult in football to be absolutely sure of the future because the game has a habit of tripping you up, but I believe we have every reason to feel confident about the future.

‘My view stems not from the euphoria of winning back the league title we lost so narrowly last season, but on the way we did it and the make-up of our playing personnel.’

The suggestion that Moyes may join as Fergie No 2 for a season would be unprecedented and could cause confusion amongst the players about who is in charge.

As the Moyes taking over at United, you have top ask the question why? He failed to win a trophy at Everton in more than a decade at Goodison Park and he has very little European experience.

In the past 6 months Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have been available. Why not go for the best managers in the world? Or Jürgen Klopp at Dortmund or even Antonio Conte at Juventus. All have better CV’s than Moyes and experience running and handling a big club.

If the rumours are true that Moyes is going to replace Fergie then their will be celebrating at the Etihad Stadium, Stamford Bridge, Anfield, the Emirates and White Hart Lane tonight as the title race for the next five years has suddenly became a lot more competitive.

What do you think about Moyes taking over for Fergie?
