Manchester United officially announced today Manchester United what we have known for weeks. That they have signed David De Gea from Atletico Madrid for around €21m (£17 million). De Gea has signed a five-year contract with the English Champions.
“I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here,” said De Gea. “When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy. I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability. It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I’m keen to do my best and show what I can do.”
Though still only 20, De Gea has been a regular starter for Atlético since breaking into the side less than two years ago, making 57 Liga appearances following his debut against FC Porto in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League group stage.
In addition to winning international honours at junior level, De Gea helped his home-town club Atlético to glory in the 2010 UEFA Europa League, when they overcame Fulham 2-1 in the final.
