Cristiano Ronaldo failed to celebrate his two goals against Granada on Sunday evening, and there are reports coming out of Spain that the Portuguese star had requested requested a transfer from Real Madrid after failing to get a new contract.
After the game on Sunday Ronaldo was asked about his lack of celebration and said:
: ‘I’m sad – when I don’t celebrate goals it’s because I’m not happy.
‘It’s a professional thing. Real Madrid know why I’m not happy.’
According to various reports in Spain, Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and managing director Jose Angel Sanchez on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeau offices to reveal that he is unhappy at the club and requested a transfer from Real Madrid.
Ronaldo is apparently upset that he has failed to negotiate a new contract extension despite having three years left on his current deal.
According to Spanish radio station, Cadena SER, Ronaldo`s request to leave the club came as a shock to Perez, as it came just one day after the close of the summer transfer window.
Ronaldo is away on international duty for the next ten days, during which he will have media duties s Portugal captain. So this story is not going to go away anytime soon.
With four months until the transfer window opens, the press in Spain will have a great time speculating where Ronaldo will go. If, and that is a big if, Real Madrid decide to sell Ronaldo, there are two clubs in Europe who have the money to pay the £100million transfer fee; Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Ronaldo has already won everything in England, so PSG would be the logical destination. But I cannot see Madrid selling one of the top three players in the world.
