Antonio Conte is optimistic next year can be even better than this one after Chelsea finished 2017 by hammering Stoke 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.
One reason for the Conte optimism is the fact that he feels that Chelsea’s improved defensive record is a major positive to emerge from this season.
He said: “I am very pleased with the performance of all my players and very pleased to finish another game with a clean sheet.
“We are showing good solidity. If you compare with last season, we have conceded less goals. We have scored less, but conceded less.
“We now have to continue to work hard to try to improve this team, but for sure this has been a great year for me, for my players and for the club and fans. It has been a fantastic year.
“To win the the title in England is not easy and to be able to do this in your first chance, I think I will remember this year forever.”
Despite being 13 points behind leaders Manchester City, Conte is looking forward to 2018 where Chelsea remain in contention to win trophies in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League>
“We are still involved in the Carabao Cup where we play against Arsenal. Last year we were eliminated in the second round against West Ham.
“At the same time we reached the final of the FA Cup and it won’t be easy to repeat this. In February we restart the Champions League against Barcelona. I think we have a lot of great games to face.”
Is Conte right Chelsea fans? Should you have optimism heading into 2018 and what you can win?
