Napoli are joint top of Serie A with Juventus thanks to an Edinson Cavani-inspired victory against Lazio on a night while both Milan teams won for the first time this season.
Cavani scored a hat-trick as Napoli continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win over Lazio. Napoli knew victory would move them level Juventus at the top of Serie A and their attacking football paid off inside 19 minutes when Cavani’s deflected effort eluded Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. The Uruguayan international made it two just after the half-hour, before finishing an imperious display with a cool finish in the second half.
AC Milan became the first of the Milan clubs to win at the San Siro this season, as they beat Cagliari 2-0 thanks to two goals from Stephan El Shaarawy.
City rivals Inter beat Chievo by the same scoreline, but it was a costly win for Andrea Stramaccioni’s side as Wesley Sneijder limped off in the first half with an apparent thigh injury.
The win moved Inter up to fourth in the table, one point behind Sampdoria, who battled to a 1-1 draw at Roma. Roma, who on Monday were handed a 3-0 home win by league officials, after the enforced postponement of their away match to Cagliari, took a first-half lead through club icon Francesco Totti. However Gianni Munari stunned the Olympic stadium with a 62nd minute equaliser and Sampdoria held on for a draw
Elsewhere, Catania came from behind to defeat Atalanta 2-1 and Marco Borriello’s penalty two minutes from time earned Genoa a 1-1 draw with Parma. Pescara are off the mark after sending Palermo to their fourth defeat of the season, while Torino and Udinese ended goalless.
