Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has been cleared of racial abuse by UEFA and will be able to play in the Champions League final against Manchester United.
Uefa has dismissed claims from Barca’s Spanish rivals Real Madrid that Busquets racially insulted Brazilian full-back Marcelo in their semi-final.
A statement on Barca’s website read: “Uefa has rejected the complaint filed by Real Madrid.”
Uefa revealed that the allegation against the 22-year-old, which stemmed from the first leg of their last-four clash.
However, European football’s governing body said via a statement on its website that it had “decided to dismiss the complaint lodged by Real due to a lack of strong and convincing evidence”.
Real posted a video on their website before the second leg showing Busquets allegedly calling full-back Marcelo “mono” (monkey) during Barca’s 2-0 win at the Bernabeu.
Not surprised by the news. UEFA has showed a real lack of interest in stamping out racism in football, and they were not going to take a stance now and possibly impact their showcase game.
