It has been a terrific first half of the season for Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool They entered the holiday season top of the league and are still holding onto that final Champions League place in 4th.
But with teams around them strengthening in the January transfer window, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is not amused that the club has not added to his small squad.
“Of course, I wanted to strengthen the team and if we are unable to do that it would be disappointing, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
“I think, yes, absolutely, we are so close to our aim of the Champions League and we should do everything we can to get there – and the owners feel like that as well.
“The people in the club see where we are at. I’ve always felt with this team that we would need to have everyone available to keep us in it, but if they are not we’ll still have to find ways to win games.”
This jus Liverpool’s best shot at a Champions League place in years, and I cannot understand why the club has not improved the squad. Everton and Manchester United both have, and if Liverpool finish out of the top four at the end of the season they will look back on the January transfer window with regret.
Especially if that failure to secure European football next season results in the departure of their talisman Luis Suarez in the summer. The Premier League’s top player is desperate to test himself against the best in Europe, and those clubs will be lining up to purchase the striker in the summer.
