Barcelona’s injury woes continue as Thiago Alcántara will be out of action for eight weeks after tests confirmed that the Barcelona’s midfielder had torn the collateral ligament in his right knee.
It’s a big blow for Thiago who missed the Olympics this summer due to injury, something he had just recovered from. If the expected timeframes are correct, Alcantara will miss a total of eleven games. He’ll miss every game in October (Benfica, Real Madrid, Deportivo la Coruña, Celtic and Rayo Vallecano) and every game in November (Celta de Vigo, Celtic, Mallorca, Zaragoza, Spartak Moscow and Levante).
On a brighter note for coach Tito Vilanova, captain Carles Puyol (knee), Andrés Iniesta (adductor) and Adriano (pelvis) have all recovered from their injuries and travelled with the team for Tuesday night’s Champions League tie against Benfica in Lisbon.
