We analyse the stats of Barcelona after they were crowned 2014/15 La Liga champions at the weekend after beating defending champions Atletico 1-0 in Madrid to give Luis Enrique bis first trophy in the Barcelona dugout
Barca won in part because of their consistency home and away: they have claimed 93 points so far, 48 at the Camp Nou and 45 on the road. Despite struggles early in the season, Barca only dropped points in seven games all season (3 draws and 4 defeats).
While Barça’s attacking stats get all the attention, they scored 108 league goals, 41 courtesy of Leo Messi, 22 from Neymar and 16 from Luis Suárez, they actually were not the top scorers: that honour goes to Real Madrid, who have scored 111 goals this season.
But it was Barca’a defensive skills that probably won them the title as they have conceded just 19 goals all season while putting together 23 clean sheets. This makes for a whopping +89 goal difference.
Barcelona fans in North America will get a chance to see the new La Liga champions live this summer as they take part in the 2015 International Champions Cup.
