Barcelona suffered a rare group stage defeat at Paris Saint-Germain while Manchester City once again struggled at home in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The match-up in Paris between PSG and Barcelona brought up the stars with Jay-Z, Beyonce and David Beckham all taking in the game. And they saw Barca concede for the firs time this season as the Lique 1 champions won 3-2.
David Luiz, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi got the goals for the French side while Lionel Messi and Neymar scored for Barca.
In Manchester is was another difficult night for the blue side of the city as an early Sergio Aguero penalty was cancelled out by 38-year-old Francesco Totti as Roma clinched a 1-1 draw.
Totti became the oldest scorer in the Champions League’s 22-year history at 38 years and 3 days, breaking Ryan Giggs’ record. The former Italy forward lifted a fine finish into the corner in the 23rd minute to cancel out a fourth-minute penalty won and converted by Aguero.
With group leaders Bayern winning 1-0 in Moscow against CSKA Moscow, the race for second place in the group is between Roma and Man City and the English side might need to go to Rome on matchday 6 and get a result if they are to reach the knockout stages.
It was a better night for England’s other side as Chelsea beat Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in Portugal to regain control of Group G.
A Cesc Fabregas free kick from the left in the 34th minute floated over the Sporting defense to the back post, where Nemanja Matic sent a looping header over goalkeeper Rui Patricio. The assist was Fabregas’s seventh of the season.
