Chelsea FC finally put Avram Grant out of his misery and officially announced what everyone had known for months. That he would not be coaching Chelsea next year. The contenders to replace Grant include Frank Rijkaard, Guus Hiddink and Roberto Mancini.
The official announcement reads:
“Chelsea can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract as manager terminated today. This follows meetings over the last two days. Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September. We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made.”
Has a football coach ever been treated as poorly as Grant? He took over from the Special One in September and took Chelsea to the Champions League Final and he lost to Man Utd in the Premiership on the last day of the season.
Chelsea’s handling of the Grant situation has been despicable, especially the comments from both chief-executive Peter Kenyon and chairman Bruce Buck following the Champions League loss. It is no wonder that Chelski are now the most hated team in England. Chelsea’s fortunes are built on billionaire owner Roman Abramovich’s loans to the club. If Abramovich ever got tired of Chelsea and called in his loans, Chelsea would make Leeds financial meltdown look like a walk in the park.
