The former Arsenal midfielder who signed for Benfica on a season-long loan deal in August has impressed for the Portuguese outfit.
But while Benfica have the option to buy Reyes for a fee believed to be in the region of €7 million, the Eagles have decided not to follow up their interest in the player.
This means that Reyes, who failed to make his mark in his first season with Atletico, is due to return to the Vicente Calderon at the end of the current campaign.
Miguel Angel Gil stated:
“We are counting on Reyes and we want him to come with us on June 2 to a tournament where will we play. His return is a certainty. I do not think he will stay at Benfica. From what I know, Benfica will not use the option to sign Reyes and we prefer that. We want him to stay with us.”
