According to various different media outlets, Arsene Wenger is expected to sign the new two-year deal on the table and return as Arsenal manager next season.
Wenger wants to go out as a winner, which is why he is expected to overhaul his squad this summer.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil , who have both rejected new deals, are expected to be sold as there are doubts over the commitment of the pair and a growing sense that it may be best to sell.
Both Ozil and Sanchez enter the final year of their current deals in the summer, meaning the pair could leave for nothing 12 months later. The futures of Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Lucas Perez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also in doubt.
As well as replacements for Ozil and Sanchez, Arsenal are reportedly looking for a new left back and goalkeeper.
On the goalkeeping front, Stoke’s Jack Butland and Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford are two names often mentioned, but Wenger could also bring Wojciech Szczesny back in from the cold after a two-year successful loan spell at Roma.
Left back targets include Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, while Celtic’s Moussa Dembele and Dortmund’s Marco Reus are options to replace Sanchez and Ozil.
Not everyone at the Emirates wants Arsene Wenger to leave at the end of the season. Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud said earlier this week that he wants Gunners boss to stay. He told French TV:
‘We want Arsene Wenger to renew his contract, to continue his adventure, because we support him.’
