Jack Wilshere’s ankle injury is a lot worse than expected and it looks like he will be out for another two to three months.
Wilshere had had a persistent problem with his right ankle, hich was aggravated while playing for England against Switzerland in June, and the Gunners are looking to manage the injury conservatively. As a result Wilshere will continue to wear a surgical boot for another month in the hope that total rest his cure his ankle ailment.
Wilshere confirmed the new in injury timetable saying on Twitter:
“I can confirm I will be out for around 2-3 months! I am working hard in the gym to stay fit and I am gutted but I will be back stronger!”
The best case scenario is that the rest works and Wilshere starts a light training programme in mid-October. The worse case scenario is that the pain persists when Wilshere resumes training and then the insertion of a screw into the joint may be needed. Which could keep him out until December.
Big blow to the Gunners and explains why Wenger brought in two midfield players at the transfer deadline and not one.
