Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club is currently working on signing two more players this summer.
The Gunners have began what many expect to be a busy transfer window with the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Mönchengladbach in a £30 million deal last month.
Many Arsenal fans had expected the Gunners to be busy in the transfer market this summer after only making only one signing last year, that being goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Speaking to French TV however, Wenger has dismissed the idea of making wholesale changes to a squad that finished 10 points behind champions Leicester City last season.
“So we’ve bought one midfielder and we’re still in the market to buy one or two more players,” he said.
We have already bought one player – Granit Xhaka – from Monchengladbach, because we have lost three players. We have lost [Mikel] Arteta, we’ve lost [Tomas] Rosicky and [Mathieu] Flamini
“It is not just buying. We have to keep a good balance. If you buy too many players you destabilize your team. So three is the maximum.”
It looks like one of those players will not be England striker Jamie Vardy, with the 29-year-old expected to reject a deal to move to the Emirates.
Wenger admitted at the weekend in an interview with Chinese television that the England international is likely to stay at Leicester, and the club will now look elsewhere for striker reinforcements.
‘Jamie Vardy is, at the moment, at Leicester and from what I know, he will stay at Leicester.’
What do you think Arsenal fans? Are you a little surprised that Wenger just wants to sign three new players this summer?
