Arsenal fans are still buzzing over the signing of Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez, but it does not look like Arsene Wenger has finished shopping in Spain as the Gunners are strongly linked with Real Madrid and Germany star Sami Khedira.
Khedira has 12 months remaining on his current deal at Madrid and the European Champions are said to be wiling to sell Khedira for around £25 million. Real are willing to let Khedira go as they have already agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for Khedira’s German teammate Toni Kroos.
Adding Khedira to the Arsenal midfield would be a massive statement of intent by Wenger. Khedira has been brilliant in the World Cup, keeping the Germany midfield ticking. While not a typical defensive midfielder, Khedira is more of a box to box midfielder, but he knows when to go and when to hold, this is a trait that is invaluable.
According to media reports, Khedira has sounded out his German teammates Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski about life at the Emirates.
A potential stumbling block is that Khedira is already on £150,000-a-week wage and had turned down two Real Madrid contract offers. Arsenal seemed to have drawn a line in the sand at £140,000-a-week which is what Ozil and Sanchez are on, but if Arsenal can get over that hurdle, then what a signing he would be.
Can you imagine Arsenal lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Ramsey and Khedira, ahead of them being Ozil, Sanchez and Walcott with Giroud up front? That is a good an attacking six as anyone in the Premier League can put out.
