After selling the best Uruguayan striker on the planet this summer, Liverpool are poised to sign Luis Suarez’s national team strike partner Edinson Cavani, a player who is not in the same league as the former Liverpool star.
PSG, as they are prone to do, massively overpaid for Cavani last summer as they paid £53 million to sign him from Napoli. But with most of Suarez’s money still in their pocket Liverpool are poised to spend big according Cavani’s agent Claudio Annelluci. Annelluci told Uruguay newspaper El Telegrafo as explaining that there are offers on the table from the Reds and Premier League rivals Arsenal.
“There was much interest in the player during the past six months. I can confirm that Cavani has heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal,” he said.
“He would love to play in England, but has not yet made a final decision. He is not interested in money and fame, he just wants to be happy playing football.”
Sorry. Had to stop and laugh at the “he is not interested in money and fame” quote. Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, but he wants to go to Real Madrid. The problem there is that Real just spent all their money on Falcao’s Monaco teammate James Rodriguez.
In my opinion Falcao is a much better better player than Cavani. When he was at Atletico Madrid, Falcao was the best pure number nine in the world. He could come in and replace Suarez and his 30+ goals. Cavani cannot.
What do you think of Cavani? Is he worth £50 million Liverpool fans or would you rather see Brendan Rodgers go and get Falcao?
