Spain arrived in South Africa today with good news. Influential midfielder Andres Iniesta has only a “minor muscle injury” and is expected to be fit for Spain’s opening game against Switzerland on June 16.
Iniesta limped off after only 39 minutes in Spain’s last warm-up game against Poland against Tuesday and there were fears that he had reaggravated a thigh injury that had cost him to miss much of Barcelona’s season.
Iniesta is the only injury worry for the defending European Champions and pre-tournament favorites. The other two injury doubts Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres, both came on as substitutes against Poland and are fit for the start of the World Cup.
Spain’s opponents in Group H are Switzerland, Honduras and Chile, and they are expected to easily win this group.
