The Milan side is expected to include Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho and Dutchman Clarence Seedorf as these two stars currently do not figure in their national team’s World Cup plans. D.C. United says that AC Milan is committed to fielding all of its star players at RFK Stadium not obligated to World Cup duties.
AC Milan is in the running for this year’s Serie A title but their championship hopes took a hit following a 2-2 draw at home against Catania. The tie leaves the Italian giants four points adrift of first-place Roma with five matches remaining. The Italian league season wraps up on May 16.
In more good news for D.C. United fans, DCU president and CEO Kevin Payne said that DCU is working on arranging two additional matches against other major European clubs for later this summer.
“We make it a priority every year to bring international teams to the Washington area,” said United President & CEO Kevin Payne. “AC Milan is historically one of the best clubs in Europe and will provide a great match for our fans and a great test for our players. Furthermore, we’re delighted to be able to offer this game and, potentially, upcoming matches against two other major European clubs to our loyal ticket plan holders as a part of their package.”
