Huge news out of Italy as Sky Italia are reporting that AC Milan has accepted Paris Saint-Germain’s €65 million offer for Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
With an agreement over a transfer fee seemingly struck between the two clubs, now PSG needs to reach agreements with the two players, something that they have struggled doing before.
PSG has a 46 million euro offer for Silva turned down last month as Rossoneri president Silvio Berlusconi rejected the transfer himself at the last minute.
Reports have suggested the 27-year-old Brazil defender could still turn down the move. Only two days ago he was quoted as saying:
“I never thought of leaving MIlan but in football it is normal to receive offers from other clubs. Myself, Ibra, Cassano, Robinho, Pato and Yepes are very close. They give me advice on staying at Milan. Galliani also called me and I thank him for the great faith he has in me.”
As for Ibrahimovic, if the deal goes through, it will mean the 30-year-old Sweden forward has cost a total of almost £150m in transfer fees, following spells with Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona and AC Milanm, making him the most expensive player ever in world football.
The oil-rich French side, who are managed by former Chelsea and Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti, had submitted an earlier joint offer today of £51million and then raised that to a mouth-watering £65million.
PSG were taken over by billionaire Qatari investors last year and they have been desperate to make a big splash in the transfer market for the last 12 months. In January, they almost signed Pato from AC Milan, only to have that deal fall apart at the last moment. Then the Silva deal came apart last month.
But it looks like they might finally have the big deal that the teams owners were craving, to go along with the signing of Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi for a reported £24m last month.
As for Milan I am not sure what they are doing. They let a lot of experience leave the club this summer and now it looks like they are going to sell their best defender and striker. Is their a plan here, or are they just determined to blow up a team that finished second in the league last year?
