Tottenham pulled off a magnificent win in the San Siro on Tuesday night with a Peter Crouch goal ten minutes from time giving Spurs victory in the away leg.
The Milan boss was definitely wary of the threat posed by Redkanpp’s side, but to take the spoils in Milan was better than expected for the North London side. But I am sure Harry and the boys had the belief, and it was that belief that has given them a great oppotunity to reach the last eight with the second leg to come at White Hart Lane.
Spurs were under the cosh as you might expect in the last period of the game, but they managed to hold out for one of the greatest results in the club’s history. The Rossoneri were unlucky in this game though and had the better of the play as expected. They remain a threat despite the defeat. But Redknapp is not the type to let his side rest on their laurels, and they will be well drilled for the return match-up.
Milan were poor tonight. The lack of team speed was once again exposed in the Champions League knock-out stages as Milan had no answer to the speed of Aaron Lennon. It was Lennon, who raced from his own half, leaving Yepes in his wake, and into the Milan box before he set up Crouch for the winner.
The game was on the verge of boiling over in the second half as Flamini was very lucky to only get a yellow for a two-footed challenge on Corluka. Gattuso was always in the middle of any physical play and the yellow card he picked up will keep him out of the second leg.
So a tough task for Milan in three weeks in London, but not unachievable. Gomes is the Spurs net had to make two or three terrific saves tonight and Milan will get chances in London to score. This tie is still delicately balanced and an early away goal for Milan could tip the tie in their favour.
