Lionel Messi Is Most Successful Barcelona Player Ever

Lionel Messi became Barcelona’s most successful player on Sunday night when he won a 33rd team title with the club.

Messi claimed an assist for Ousmane Dembele’s winner as Barca beat Sevilla 2-1 to lift the Supercopa de Espana.

The 31-year-old replaced Andres Iniesta, who left the Camp Nou after more than two decades to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe earlier this year, as the most decorated player in Barca’s history.

Messi has now won the Spanish Super Cup eight times, as well as nine La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, six Copa del Reys, three Club World Cups and a hat-trick of UEFA Super Cups.

Iniesta won 32 team trophies during his stellar Barca career, while fellow midfield legend Xavi lifted 25 before moving on in 2015.

Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets — who are both still at the club — have each won 28 trophies with the Catalan giants.

Messi’s first trophy with Barca was the La Liga title in the 2004-05 season, in which he scored one goal in seven substitute appearances.

He has since gone on to score 383 La Liga goals, while his total in all competitions for Barca currently stands at 552.
