Juventus star Paulo Dybala will become the latest in a long line of legends to pull on the No 10 shirt for the upcoming season.
Dybala has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona as a replacement for Neymar, but Juventus nipped that story in the bud with the announcement that the Argentine will swap the No 21, worn by the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Andrea Pirlo, for football’s most iconic number.
The number, donned by greats such as Alessandro Del Piero and Roberto Baggio, has been vacant since Paul Pogba departed for Manchester United last summer.
It is a move which underlines the Bianconeri’s refusal to sell the 23-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona following the exit of Neymar.
It is clear Juve plan on building the team around Dybala, who will be integral if they are to finally end their wait for another Champions League trophy.
This will be the first time in his career that he pulls on the number that has become synonymous with compatriots like Diego Maradona, Juan Roman Riquelme, Ariel Ortega and Messi.
Former wearer Del Piero took to Twitter to congratulate Dyabala with the youngster replying that it was an ‘honour’.
