Koscielny Questions Wenger’s Team Selection

It has not been a good week for Arsene Wenger. First he saw his side lose to both Watford and Chelsea, defeats that ended the Gunners title hopes, and now defender Laurent Koscielny has questioned the team selection of manager Arsene Wenger against Chelsea

‘I think we played some players in front of others and I think we should have played more as a team and there was space to do so. They hit us on the counter,’ Koscielny said in the aftermath of the clash on Saturday.

Wenger had made some interesting team selections in the build up to the clash, opting to start Hector Bellerin over Gabriel, despite insisting after the defeat to Watford last week that he had played Gabriel in that match as the Brazilian was better able to cope with the Hornets’ physicality.

Wenger also opted to start with Theo Walcott and under-fire Mesut Ozil either side of Alexis Sanchez with in-form Danny Welbeck, impressive against Southampton last month, on the bench.

Arsenal return to action this weekend when they host Hull at the Emirates.

While the Gunners are desperate to make amends and get back to winning ways the Tigers have reason to be confident.

Marco Silva’s side have been enjoying a fine run in 2017, recently highlighted with their emphatic 2-0 victory over Liverpool at the KCOM Stadium.
