Juventus have signed Gonzalo Higuain in a €90 million after triggering his release clause with Napoli.
The transfer fee will be payed in two instalments, with the 28-year-old Argentine inking a five-year contract with the Serie A champions believed to be worth in the region of €7.5m per season
The transfer fee makes Higuain the third most expensive player of all time, behind Real Madrid stars Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. That is at least until Paul Pogba signs for Manchester United later this week.
A statement on juventus.com read:
‘Juventus Football Club can today confirm that it has purchased the registration rights of Gonzalo Higuain for 90million euros, payable in two financial years.
‘The player has agreed a five-year contract with the club.’
Meanwhile, Napoli informed fans of the Argentine’s departure via their Twitter account.
“Juventus have exercised the release clause for the acquisition of the sporting rights of Gonzalo Gerardo Higuain,” an announcement on Napoli’s official Twitter feed reads.
Napoli appear to have moved quickly in their bid to replace Higuain, with reports in the Netherlands claiming they have agreed a fee with Ajax that would see them sign striker Arkaduisz Milik.
This has been a tremendous offseason for Juve, who have signed Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves, Medhi Benatia, and Marko Pjaca in addition to Higuain.
Higuain enjoyed a career season in 2015/16, scoring 36 goals for Napoli and breaking Gunnar Nordahl’s 66-year-old record for most goals in a single campaign.
