According to The Telegraph Diego Costa has agreed to stay at Chelsea next season and work under Antonio Conte.
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a return to Spain since the start of last season and appeared likely to return to Atletico Madrid just two years after leaving for Chelsea.
However, the 28-year-old has agreed to remain at Stamford Bridge despite the arrival of Michy Batshuayi and Chelsea’s pursuit of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Should Chelsea succeed in their move for Morata, who the Blues have already held talks over, then 22-year-old Batshuayi will be given time to get used to English football as a substitute and playing in the cups.
Costa has struggled to settle in England and became frustrated with life at Chelsea last season after being left out of the side by former manager Jose Mourinho and getting into frequent disciplinary problems with the FA.
Despite those struggles, only Harry Kane (46) and Sergio Aguero (50) have scored more goals than Costa (32) in the last two Premier League season’s.
Conte shows at the Euros this summer that he is a master motivator and if he can get Conte playing like he did during Chelsea’s title winning season, and even when Guus Hiddink took over last season, then the Blues chances of a top four finish are greatly enhanced. If he cannot, then it will be a long season for Chelsea relying on the young and untried Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata.
What do you think Chelsea fans? Are you happy to see Costa return for another season?
