Mauricio Pochettino has done a brilliant job at White Hart Lane, taking the youngest team in the Premier League to within a whisper of winning the title.
His intense and physical coaching style has been a key reason for Tottenham’s impressive title campaign this season – and it is clear that his stock is rising.
Pochettino has laid a foundation at Tottenham Hotspur that should allow Spurs to be perennial title contenders, especially with the added money that the expanded White Hart Lane will generate.
But there is a cloud over the club today and that is because the best young manager in the Premier League wants to replace Laurent Blanc as manager of French giants PSG, the club he once captained for as a player.
In an interview with French radio station RMC, Pochettino, who has three years left on his contract at Spurs, said that he harbours ambitions to manage the star-studded PSG side.
“I’ve always said that I would be pleased to join a great club like PSG,” Pochettino told.
“Come to Paris? I hope so. It is true that it would please me. It’s part of my dreams. I try to watch all their matches, especially in the Champions League.
“The [French] championship is not very attractive because PSG is far from the other teams but I look a lot because it is a major source of players. There is talent so I have to follow Ligue 1.”
Despite being on track to win a domestic treble, Blanc only retained his job for next season because PSG were unable to persuade Jose Mourinho to spurn Manchester United for Paris. But if Spurs continue to impress next season, and if they advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League, then Daniel Levy might be looking for a new manager in 12 months.
