It is an ongoing problem with Arsenal where players are coming back from an initial minor injury and break down and need surgery. We saw it earlier this month when Danny Welbeck broke down in training and is out until Christmas after having surgery on was originally was called a minor injury.
Now we hear that Jack Wilshere has broken down once again in training and will require surgery on a hairline fracture in his left leg.
Manager Arsene Wenger last week confirmed the England international had suffered a “little setback” in his scheduled recovery from the injury sustained in pre-season.
It is understood following further medical examinations, the decision has now been taken that an operation is needed to properly correct the problem and is likely to take place in the next few days.
The unanswered question is why now? We knew six weeks ago, that a scan had identified a hairline fracture of Wilshere’s left fibula. Why was surgery not done then, as the England midfielder would be more than 50% through his rehab by now?
Instead, Wilshere will be out up to three months, meaning the midfielder will not be back until Christmas, having once again missed another half of the season.
