A bold statement from former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy that Christian Benteke will be one of the Premier League’s top goalscorer this season.
Benteke joined Liverpool late last month after a long drawn-out transfer saga, which resulted in the Reds activating his £32 million release clause at Aston Villa, as per the Liverpool Echo.
The Belgium international had to wait until last week for first team action with the Reds, after arriving at the club whilst the rest of the squad were touring the Far East and Australia.
The 24-year-old was finally given his first piece of game time on Sunday when half of the Brendan Rodgers’ squad travelled to Swindon Town, a match in which he showed just why so much money had been coughed up for his services.
The ex-Genk star scored a mesmeric volley against the League One side, which sent Liverpool fans in the stand and back at home into dreamland.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil breakfast show about the striker Murphy said:
“I’m feeling positive about Liverpool’s season.”
“I really like Benteke, I think he’s got some brilliant attributes to play that role and with the creativity behind him I think he’ll get a lot of chances and will score

The goal and Swindow and the combination play with fellow new signing Roberto Firmino has lead more than a few Reds fans to bet that Benteke will be crowned top scorer in the Premier League in 2015-16.
The 24-year-old, who scored 13 goals in the Premier League last season, is now available at 16/1, joint-sixth favourite with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
It’s a familiar name at the top of the favourites list, with last season’s top scorer Sergio Aguero the 11/4 favourite. The Argentinian scored 26 goals last term and has an unbelievable tally of 78 goals in just 120 Premier League matches; should he stay fit Manchester City could well be title favourites.
