New York City FC are finally expected to officially announce next week what we have known for weeks now. That former Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard is heading to Major League Soccer.
With NYC FC not beginning play in MLS until next season, Lampard is expected to joinNew York’s sister club Melbourne City FC on loan until then.
During his 13 years at Chelsea, Lampard became the club’s all-time record goal scorer and won three Premier League titles and the Champions League, the Europa League and four FA Cups.
He was part of Roy Hodgson’s 23-man World Cup squad that went to the World Cup and played in England’s final match against Costa Rica.
Lampard will be the second big name to sign for NYC FC, as they earlier this summer confirmed the signing of Spanish star David Villa.
I like the two signings that New York have made. While Villa and Lampard are not the players they were say there of four years ago, they both made their national team squads for the World Cup, showing that they are still competitive at the top level. They both bring with them passion and experience that will be a huge assert to Jason Kreis in the dressing room next season as Lamps and Villa help lay down the right attitude and expectations in New York.
