Mexico ended a four-game winless streak in World Cup qualifying, easing pressure on coach Sven-Goran Eriksson with a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica on Saturday night. Omar Bravo scored in the 19th minute after his initial shot off a cross from Matias Vuoso was deflected by goalkeeper Ricardo Gonzalez. Pavel Pardo converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute after he was fouled by Roy Myrie.
Mexico (1-1) had lost 2-0 to the U.S. last month and had been 0-3-1 in its last four qualifiers, all on the road. Costa Rica (1-1), which had won its previous eight qualifiers, hosts El Salvador on Wednesday.
In the other game on Saturday, a goal from second-half substitute Khaleem Hyland in the 89th minute, gave Trinidad and Tobago a 1-1 tie against Honduras in Port of Spain. Honduras captain Carlos Pavon had put the visitors ahead in the 50th minute before Hyland rescued T&T.
Trinidad (0-0-2), plays the United States on Wednesday at Nashville, Tenn, while Honduras hosts Mexico.
