Napoli President Says Non To Meeting With Cavani

cavaniAfter spending the last month listening to various members of Edison Cavani’s family talk about what team will be with next season, Napoli’s President Aurelio De Laurentiis says he has no reason to meet with the striker about his future.

Earlier this week Cavani said he wanted to speak with De Laurentiis once the Confederations Cup was over saying:

“I’ve heard untrue rumours and things about me. For this reason, I want to talk as soon as possible with president De Laurentiis. We must clear this [situation up] ourselves.”

But the Napoli owner responded that a meeting was not necessary:

“There is no need for a face-to-face meeting because of the transfer clause in his contract,” De Laurentiis underlined.

“If there comes a time when a club brings to the table €63m then we will not be in a position to keep him.

“However, at the moment, nobody has called me to make an offer. There was a meeting with Manchester City, but we didn’t consider their bid high enough.

“If an offer arrives, good, if an offer is not forthcoming then Cavani will stay in Italy and new Napoli Coach Rafa Benitez, like everyone in Naples, will be very happy.”

De Laurentiis is from the Daniel Levy school of negotiating and he wants the €63m buyout clause that is in Cavani’s contract and not one euro less.

Napoli are one of the few Serie A clubs not struggling financially, meaning that they don’t have to sell Cavani in order to buy other players. Which leaves the ball firmly in the court of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid, the three clubs with the financial clout to sign Cavani and the attacking need.

Do you think that Cavani will stay at Napoli next season, or will he be playing in Spain or England?
