Borussia Dortmund say that they have received more than 500,000 ticket applications for this month’s Champions League final at Wembley.
This will be Dortmund’s first final since winning the trophy in 1997 and supporters of the eight-time Bundesliga winners have been clamouring for a place at the London showdown, with 502,567 applying through the club for just 24,042 tickets.
“It’s absolutely crazy,” a Dortmund statement said, adding that a ballot system is in place to determine who will get their hands on the prized tickets.
Dortmund are renowned for their fantastic support with 80,000 fans regularly attending their Westfalenstadion for home games.
But due to the way that Uefa allocates ticket, Dortmund and Bayern only get 25,000 tickets each, even though the capacity at Wembley will be 86,000.
