A story by James Nursey in The Mirror, former Blackburn manager Steve Kean could be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer as part of Jose Mourinho’s staff.
Mourinho has his own backroom staff that follows him from team to team, but he likes to have an assistant manager from the country he is working in.
In his first stint as Chelsea manager that role was filled by Steve Clarke, who is now the West Brom manager.
As a player Kean enjoyed a spell with Coimbra in Portugal, and he speaks fluent Portuguese, which will help him with Mourinho’s staff.
Kean was previously approached by Chelsea in June 2008 to join Luiz Felipe Scolari’s coaching staff but stayed as Coventry assistant.
Kean was deeply unpopular at Blackburn where he took over from Big Sam and eventually got Rovers relegated. He quitting Blackburn last September saying he was “forced to resign” despite the Championship club being third at the time. Blackburn eventually finished 17th in the Championship and narrowly avoided getting relegated again.
I wonder what Rovers fans would think of the sight of Kean sitting on the Chelsea bench next season next to Jose Mourinho?
