Juventus are back to back champions on Italy after picking up their 29th or 31st Scudetto title, while both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona had to put the champagne back on ice. Here is a roundup of all the weekend from the big leagues in Italy.
Italy
Juventus won the Serie A title finish with three games remaining thanks to a 1-0 win against Palermo. Needing just a point to be confirmed champions, Antonio Conte’s men retained their crown, and the club’s 29th overall, thanks to an Arturo Vidal penalty. Juventus claims 31 titles as they include the back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006 that were later stripped of them and relegated to Serie B in the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal.
Napoli all but locked up second place as they beat Inter Milan 3-1, while AC Milan consolidated third spot by defeating Torino 1-0.
France
PSG missed the chance to wrap up the Ligue 1 title on Sunday as they could only draw 1-1 with Valenciennes, after losing Thiago Silva to a 43rd-minute red card. Carlo Ancelotti’s men lead second-placed Marseille, who beat Bastia 2-1, by seven points with three games to go. In third, Olympique Lyonnais kept OGC Nice three points back by seeing off Nancy-Lorraine 3-0, Nice having defeated Stade Rennais by the same scoreline.
Spain
Real Madrid edged a seven-goal thriller against Real Valladolid to keep the Liga race alive for another week, before Barcelona left themselves needing just one more win by overcoming Real Betis Balompié 4-2. The Seville outfit twice took the lead at Camp Nou, only for Lionel Messi to come off the bench and hit the two goals that earned Barça the points. In third, Atlético Madrid drew 0-0 at Deportivo La Coruña, and Valencia put pressure on fourth-placed Real Sociedad with a 4-0 defeat of Osasuna.
England
It remains tight in the battle for the two final Champions League places after Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal all won 1-0 at the weekend. Spurs, who face Chelsea on Wednesday, lie fifth, two points behind fourth place Arsenal with a game in hand.
Germany
We has a spicy preview to the Champions League Final as Dortmund coach and Bayern Munich drew 1-1. Bayern had Rafinha sent off and Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in next season’s Champions League group stage by beating Nürnberg 2-0, with Schalke 04 three points clear in fourth courtesy of a 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
