According to Corriere dello Sport, AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi will fire Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season, even if Allegri leads Milan into the Champions League.
Berlusconi has been at odds with Allegri since the summer and a leaked conversation over the weekend gave a glimpse into what the Milan patron really thinks about his manager.
“He sent away Pirlo and Pato.If he stays,he’ll send away others.Tactically he understands so few”
Milan fans disagree with their President and banners of suport for the man who led Milan to the Scudetto in his first season at Milan and they finished second a year later, could be seen at this weekend’s match against Catania.
The Milan players seem to enjoy playing for Allegri with Mario Balotelli being quoted as saying:
“The president can say what he wants but I hope Allegri remains our coach for a long time”
Keep in mind that the reason that Milan is not challenging for the title this year is because Berlusconi did a massive wage dump over the summer, selling or letting go the club’s best and most experienced players. For Allegri to get Milan back into a Champions League spot is pretty remarkable considering the horrible start to the season they had.
But the writing is on the wall and Allegri will be fired at the end of the season. But don’t expect him to be unemployed for long. Rumour has it that Roma are getting set to offer Allegri €2.5m a year in 3-yr deal once he fired by Milan.
So who will Berlusconi bring in to replace Allegri. Corriere suggests Berlusconi is looking at former Milan players Mark Van Bommel and Pippo Inzaghi, with Clarence Seedorf also seen as a possibility.
All three of them are inexperienced managers who would probably be open to “tactical suggestions” from Berlusconi. The problem with that is that these candidates are a long way away from the best manager in Serie A, Juventus boss Antonio Conte. Which will make competing with Juventus for the Scudetto next season even harder for Milan.
