Just a day after destroying Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, his agent strongly hinted that the Polish striker will be joining his Dortmund teammate Mario Goetze at Bayern Munich next year
Lewandowski’s contract expires at the end of next season, and reports in Germany today suggest that Dortmund have decided to cash in on the striker rather than have him leave for free in a year.
“We have reached an agreement with a club and intend (him) to move this summer,” Barthel told Sport Bild.
“There is a very interesting offer for Robert which fulfills entirely the demands set by Dortmund and also the demands of Robert.
“Dortmund have assured us that Robert can move at the end of the season under these conditions.
“We stick to agreements and now it’s up to the clubs to sort things out.”
While Lewandowski has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, the smart betting since the start of the year has been the the striker would be moving to rivals Bayern Munich, who earlier in the week activated the €37 million release clause of Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze.
Lewandowski has been terrific all season, scoring 34 goals in 42 games and has scored in each of his last 12 Bundesliga appearances.
It’s a big blow to Dortmund, who have now lost two of their best players to their closest domestic rivals, and the side that they will probably meet in the Champions League final. Bayern are a massive 20 points ahead of Dortmund in the Bundesliga this year, and you would have to expect that lead will only grow wider next season.
