Three Napoli players have been handed suspensions in the wake of Saturday’s heated Italian Super Cup against Juventus in China.
Goran Pandev and Andrea Dossena have both been given two-match bans while their team-mate Juan Zuniga will serve a one-match suspension, the Italian football league (Lega Calcio) announced on Tuesday.
Pandev and Zuniga were both sent off in the final five minutes of regular time, with Pandev shown a straight red card for comments he made to the referee and Zuniga given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card for a foul.
Dossena, meanwhile, was punished for foul language aimed at an assistant referee following the game.
Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri, who was also red-carded towards the end of regular time, has been given a one-match ban and a fine.
League champions Juventus won the match 4-2 after extra-time following a 2-2 draw during the 90 minutes.
After the match Napoli refused to watch Juve receive the trophy or pick up their runners-up medals, instead returning immediately to the dressing room and making an announcement via their website that they would
“not be participating in the awards ceremony nor making any declarations”.
