Brazilian legend Dunga believes Juventus have strengthened their side considerably with the signing of Lucio.
A well-decorated central defender, Lucio made the move to the Serie A from Bundesliga side Bayern Munich when he was bought by then Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho. An integral part of the Portuguese boss’ side, Lucio went on to win the Champions League with the Nerazzurri.
However, Inter’s recent campaign was a major disappointment, as the team crashed out of Europe’s premier competition at the hands of Marseille and only managed a sixth place finish in their domestic league.
Despite having two more years on his contract to run, both Lucio and Inter came to an agreement to mutually terminate the deal, as the club begin assembling a younger squad in hopes of achieving Champions League qualification in the upcoming season.
Less than a week after his release from the Nerazzurri, the Brazilian was snapped up by Serie A champions Juventus, in a move Dunga believes will be beneficial for both parties.
“If I had to go to war, Lucio is the first player I’d take with me, he’s a great signing, trust me,” he shared with Tuttosport.
Having managed Lucio while in charge of the Brazilian national team, the former World Cup winner expressed his surprise at Inter’s willingness to release a player of Lucio’s calibre.
“Lucio is a champion and a true leader. He fits in with Juve’s hunger for success because he always wants to win. With this, he will drag the rest of his team-mates with him,” Dunga stated.
“Players like him are hard to find, and usually if you have one you keep them.”
