Mathieu Flamini has left AC Milan after the two sides could not agree on a new two-year deal.
“The deadline has passed and we told his lawyer we won’t be waiting any more,’ Milan vice president Galliani told Sky Sport Italia, speaking of Flamini’s exit.
‘We’ll bring in a new midfielder by August 31.”
Flamini, 28, signed for Milan on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2008 but never really established himself in the Milan midfield.
While he missed most of last season with a knee injury, Flamini obviously was not impressed with Milan’s contract offer of £28,000 per week — less than HALFthe £73,000 per week salary he had been on since joining from Arsenal on a free transfer four years ago.
Flamini started his career in France with Marseille but used the Bosman rule to join Arsenal in 2004. He let his four-year contract at the Emirates run out before moving to Milan on a free four years ago.
And after parting company with the Rossoneri, Flamini will be in the remarkable position of having left three clubs unable to command a transfer fee for his services.
