Big decision by AC Milan as they have announced on their web site that defender Thiago Silva will not be sold this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain had been in negotiations with the Rossoneri and Silva’s agent, but the deal somehow stalled and Milan released a statement on its website confirming that it intended to keep Silva at the San Siro.
The statement read:
“The president Silvio Berlusconi has decided: Thiago Silva will stay at Milan.”
Berlusconi added:
“We refused an offer of €46 million. My old Milanista heart made me say no.”
“We didn’t change our minds. We didn’t want to sell the player, but we received an extraordinary offer from PSG.”
Big decision by Berlusconi and Milan to turn down PSG’s petrol euros and keep the defender. Milan lost a lot of veteran players this summer that they need to replace. That €46 Million would have gone a long way to helping Milan rebuild.
This is the second time this year that PSG and Milan have gotten close to a deal. Back in January it appeared that Pato was heading to the French side, before pulling out of that deal at the last moment.
But PSG sporting director Leonardo has no hard feelings towards former club Milan despite failing to reach an agreement to land Silva.
“We thought the negotiations would be successful,” Leonardo said to Sky Italia. “However, in order for that to happen, you need the wish of the two clubs to complete a deal.
“Milan seemed willing but then there were certain things that blocked the situation.
“This can happen in football and I cannot accuse [Milan vice-president Adriano] Galliani of anything, he remains my great teacher.
“Having gone as far as we did in the negotiation, we decided to pull out.”
