Inter Milan have signed Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa for around 11 million euros.
“Palacio is an Inter player. We’ve reached an agreement.” Genoa President Enrico Preziosi confirmed the deal when speaking to Sky: “We’ve had a troubled season and lots of players have asked to be sold. There was some friction between Palacio and the fans at Novara and the day after we had made certain of our Serie A future next season he asked to be sold. And he’s already been sold, to Inter. We have an agreement in place. Inter have been keeping an eye on him for the past two years. His sale was a good deal for both clubs and the player has doubled his wages.”
Palacio became an Inter priority after the price of Ezequiel Lavezzi increased after PSG declared their interest in the Napoli striker.
Palacio probably fits into Stramaccioni’s system better than Lavezzi would, as he can play on the wing or as a second striker. Inter were really missing width last season and Palacio should help with that. In 32 games for Genoa last season he scored 19 goals and 5 assists, by far this best season in Serie A.
Inter have not waited around to make their moves this summer, as they have already completed the permanent transfer of Fredy Guarin from Porto for around €11m. I wrote last week that Inter had signed Mattia Destro from Genoa and now Rodrigo Palacio. That puts Inter’s spending this summer at around €30m, which is very good for three players that you would expect to see play every week for Inter next season.
