Reports out of Spain suggest that Roma are trying to convince Barcelona to re-sign Bojan Krkic this summer.
Barcelona have the option to re-sign the 21-year-old Krkic for €17million this summer, while they are obliged to re-purchase the forward at the end of the 2012-2013 campaign for €13m as part of the €12m deal that took him to Italy last summer.
Roma can prevent Barca from re-signing Krkic next year by paying an additional €28m, but according to Spanish publication Sport, the Serie A side do not want to keep him at the club on a long-term basis.
Bojan has struggled for consistency at Roma this season and has found himself left on the bench for most of the campaign.
He had been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham prior to his move away from Camp Nou, and speaking last October, he claimed he would never return to Barcelona while Pep Guardiola, who will step down as coach at the end of the month, remained in charge.
“Guardiola didn’t see me at all,” he said in an interview.
“I would give 100 per cent in training, yet he’d never consider me for selection in the games. I left because of him and I shall certainly not return while he is still on the bench.
“I wasn’t happy because I didn’t play and I didn’t have continuity.
“It is one thing not to play, but another not to feel part of the squad.”
I cannot see why Barcelona would want to complete this deal this summer as they can get Krkic in 12 months for 4m less euros. What would be their motivation to take him back now? It’s not as if he is going to walk into Barca’s starting line-up!
I wonder though if the deal between Barca and Roma, allows Roma to sell Krkic onto another team this summer, which would then void the Barcelona buyback clause? There were a lot of teams interested in Krkic a year-ago and maybe some of them would still be interested in buying him despite his disappointing season in Serie A.
