Lionel Messi made headlines once again as he scored a club record 15th Liga hat-trick for Barcelona in a thrilling 5-4 win against Deportivo La Coruña. Meanwhile, Chelsea shone in England, Paris Saint-Germain went top in France and Bayern Munich set a Bundesliga record.
Spain
Lionel Messi is almost a one-man team as his 21st hat-trick for the club gave Barca a sensational 5-4 win at Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday night. The win, and three points, keeps Barcelona level on points at the top of La Liga with Atlético Madrid, whose last-minute free-kick from Falcao allowed them to beat Real Sociedad 1-0. Elsewhere, Real Madrid continue to climb the standings, as goals from Gonzalo Higuaín and Cristiano Ronaldo gave them a comfortbale 2-0 win against Celta Vigo.
Italy
In the big game in Serie A, Juventus strengthened their grip atop the standings by beating second-placed Napoli 2-0 courtesy of two late goals in as many minutes from Martín Cáceres and Paul Pogba. Inter Milan continued their revival under Andrea Stramaccioni as they moved up to third place after beating Catani for their fourth consecutive league win. On the other side of Milan, things look a lot gloomier as AC Milan lost for the fifth time this season, losing 3-2 to Lazio.
France
Remember how a couple of weeks ago there were all those negative articles about PSG and whether Carlo Ancelotti was the right man for the job. Well it’s not quite Halloween, but a look PSG are the new leaders of Ligue 1 after Olympique Marseille suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at lowly Troyes on Sunday. PSG went top 24 hours earlier when Kevin Gameiro headed the only goal of the game to beat Reims Olympique Lyonnais remain a point behind the leading duo after Bafétimbi Gomis’ goal proved enough to down Brestois.
England
Chelsea remain four points clear at the top of the Premier League summit after an impressive 4-2 win at Tottenham Hotspur. Trailing Chelsea are two Manchester clubs as Man United beat Stoke 4-2 while ten-man Man City staged a dramatic comeback as they beat West Brom thanks to two goals from Edin Džeko. At the bottom of the table, Reading and QPR are still waiting for their first league wins of the season.
Germany
Bayern set a new Bundesliga record as they became the first side to win their opening eight league matches. Bayern had no trouble picking up that eight win as they thrashed Fortuna Düsseldorf 5-0. Eintracht Frankfurt, who are in second place, are already five points behind Bayern. Defending champions Borussia Dortmund continued their slow start to the season as they lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Schalke in the Ruhr Valley derby.
