The New England Revolution met former captain Shalrie Joseph and Chivas USA in an entertaining 3-3 draw at an empty Gillette Stadium tonight.
New England came out on fire scoring three goals in the opening 20 minutes through Sene (2) and a McKenzie own goal. After struggling to score all season, suddenly the Revs had scored 6 goals in the last 1 1/2 games, and they seemed destined to go on and win this match.
Even when Joseph pulled one back from a corner after 23 minutes, New England were firmly in control of the game, playing with a confidence that they had been missing all season.
Then Joseph scored a rocket from 25-yards right before half-time and as the Revolution players headed to the dressing room, you could see the confidence ebb out of them with every step.
Two minutes into the second half Miller Bolanos scored for Chivas nd suddenly New England starting to feel the weight of their eight game losing streak.
Suddenly it was Chivas who felt that they could win the game and it took two good saves from Matt Reis to preserve the draw for New England.
What has to be driving Revs coach Jay Heaps crazy are the mental mistakes that the team keeps making. The goals right before and after the half. The third Chivas goal, which came from a thrown-in, the third consecutive game that New England has conceded a goal from a thrown in.
Next up for New England is a home game with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. The Union is another team that has struggled this season, and will present another good opportunity for the Revs to pick up maximum points.
